Praise for Veganism: Let Them Eat Cake

Thanks for publishing the piece about Hannah Kaminsky, the 19-year-old vegan baker and cookbook author ("Hold the Eggs," June 17, online exclusive). Kaminsky's personal success, as well as the success of her My Sweet Vegan cookbook, speaks to the ever-growing popularity and legitimacy of vegetarian and vegan diets in America. Vegan desserts like Kaminsky's golden glazed donuts, butterscotch blondies, or "award-winning mocha devastation cake" allow us to "have our cake and eat it too"; when we eat vegan, we know we're not ingesting cholesterol and we're not causing suffering to factory-farmed dairy cows or egg-laying hens. Who knew reducing cruelty could taste this good?
