Choose Vegetarianism

Kudos to The California Aggie for highlighting the top spots for vegetarian dining in the area (“Tofu and vegetables never tasted so good,” Jan. 25). Polls show that a growing number of students nationwide are choosing meat-free meals—and with good reason. In addition to protecting our health, a vegetarian diet also helps protect animals. Every year in the United States, billions of animals raised on today’s factory farms are routinely subjected to cruel practices, including intensive confinement inside cages, crates or stalls as well as mutilations without pain relief. If dogs or cats were treated similarly, it would result in legal prosecution.

By choosing vegetarian foods, each of us can make a difference for animals—one meal at a time.
