Vegetarian Diet

Thanks to Compassionate Action for Animals and Marc Bekoff, more people are pledging to go veg (“Veg Week Encourages Meatless Diet,” Wednesday).

Not only is vegetarian eating (i.e. consuming soy and vegetable based products in place of meat, dairy and eggs) terrific for the animals, it is a present we can give our own bodies.

Vegetarians and vegans tend to have lower body mass indices, a number that is connected to diabetes, heart disease and other ailments. And vegans have even lower rates of osteoporosis than meat eaters!

I hope we can think about the animals, and then think about caring for ourselves. For we are all animals, whether human or nonhuman, and we all deserve the best life has to offer.
