'Veggies' Article Shows Teens Learn To Abstain from Meat
Thank you for your very enlightening piece on the popularity of vegetarianism
("Eat Your Veggies," March 12). Your article illustrates an encouraging
trend in this country: Young people represent the fastest-growing demographic
in the vegetarian movement, in part because these kids are open to new ideas
and are eager to embrace a healthy, ethical lifestyle.
Rather than "giving up" something, teens understand that by going
veggie, they are gaining stronger bodies, a healthier planet and the freedom
of hundreds - even thousands - of animals they would otherwise eat during their
lifetime. As more compassionate people opt for delicious, nutritious meals free
of animal products, more and more farmed animals are relieved of the unconscionable
suffering found on factory farms and slaughter plants that exist solely to feed
our hunger for flesh.
Those making the switch to a plant-based diet might want to check out www.TryVeg.com.
