The Investigation

From August through November 2002, COK investigators made numerous visits to Red Bird Egg Farms, a factory farm located at 33265 Walnut Tree Road, Millington, Md.

Five investigations at commercial egg farms in the United States have been conducted in just two years. The documentation of extreme cruelty at facilities in Minnesota; Cecilton, Maryland; Ohio; Westminster, Maryland; and now in Millington, Maryland; demonstrate that animal abuse is the norm, not the exception, in commercial egg production.

The six major egg producers exposed in the five investigations since January 2001 are not the “bad apples” of the egg industry, but rather reflect the inherent problems of keeping hens in battery cages.

On November 20, 2002, COK investigators openly rescued ten hens from Red Bird Egg Farms who were dire need of immediate care. These hens will live out the rest of their lives free from the misery of factory farming.

Please look through the photo gallery and consider the misery egg-laying hens must endure. Then, see what you can do to help end their suffering.
