2001 by the Numbers

During 2001, COK…

  • Conducted an investigation and open rescue at ISE-America, a battery-cage egg factory farm in Maryland.
  • Produced our first video documentary, Hope for the Hopeless, on our egg industry investigation and rescue of eight hens.
  • Organized feature showings of Hope for the Hopeless at Animal Rights 2001, American University, and the Visualized Film Festival; more than 3,500 individuals have seen the documentary to date.
  • Organized 29 demonstrations.
  • Organized 10 vegan feed-ins.
  • Sent 110 letters to the editor.
  • Submitted 8 opinion-editorials to newspapers.
  • Was featured in 31 mainstream news stories.
  • Led 12 workshops on human supremacy and animal rights.
  • Erected the Factory Farming Exhibit on the National Mall for 4 months.
  • Toured the FaunaVision van 42 times through the streets of Washington, D.C.
  • Distributed more than 20,000 Choose Vegan brochures.
  • Distributed nearly 16,000 Neiman Marcus anti-fur leaflets.
  • Sent out more than 1,100 free Vegan Starter Packs upon request.
  • Placed 35 "Proud to Serve Vegan Meals" decals in D.C.-area restaurants.
  • Persuaded 16 local humane organizations to pledge to serve only vegetarian meals at their functions.
  • Produced the first-ever Vegan Guide to Washington, D.C.
  • Launched two new websites: www.NeimansKills.com and www.ISECruelty.com.
